Charles Towne Landing State Park

Just ten minutes from downtown Charleston, Charles Towne Landing State Park has many one-of-kind offerings and something for every age to enjoy.  There are endless walking trails through century old gardens, marsh expanses with winding creeks, and a grand alley of oaks. A favorite is the outdoor zoo with the area's early indigenous animals thriving in their natural setting, such as a black bear, cougars, wolves, bison, otters, bobcats, deer, elk, a bald eagle, wild turkeys and a netted, enclosed birds of prey sanctuary that visitors can enter.

Sunrise Park

Known to locals as Sunrise Park, Melton Peter Demetre Park boasts equally glorious sunsets.  This city park is just 15 minutes from downtown Charleston and is perfect for family outings, romantic strolls, or peaceful dog walks.  This James Island park overlooks the Charleston Harbor and has two sandy stretches that are often filled with avid hunters of sharks teeth and beach glass.  There is beach fishing as well as a small pier for crabbing and fishing.
